Visa, the exclusive payment technology partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Banca Transilvania, partner of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, today announced their partnership to bring the excitement of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games closer to Romanian cardholders with the new Visa BT animated virtual card in euro. This is a digital-only debit card issued from BT Pay that customers can use immediately for payments in shops and online via the app. The euro account opens automatically, so there is no need to have a euro account with BT when applying for the card. Issuing and administration costs are zero and transactions are made directly in euros.

The new card comes with a design inspired by the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The same theme - a choice of two versions - is also available for a limited period of time in the animated virtual card BT VISA in lei, launched last year. By the end of March this year, the newly issued virtual cards will be entered into a draw for a trip to Paris, which includes tickets to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"This time last year we were launching Europe's first animated virtual card. What we did then was to prepare the digital platform in BT Pay for the launch of similar cards. That's how we subsequently managed to implement and launch the BT UNTOLD virtual card in just about a week, as well as the animated virtual card in euro announced today. For our customers, everything is very simple because the whole experience is in BT Pay: from issuance, to use and management", says Oana Ilaș, Deputy General Manager Retail Banking, Banca Transilvania.

"Visa's long-standing partnership with the Olympic and Paralympic Games provides unique opportunities to help our customers connect with cardholders. Together with Banca Transilvania, we are offering customers not only the convenience of payments at their fingertips, but also a symbol of their connection to one of the most prestigious sporting events. Our partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation and our desire to create exceptional experiences for our cardholders," added Elena Ungureanu, Country Manager at Visa in Romania.

The BT VISA animated virtual card in euro complements the bank's travel solutions, which can be accessed via the BT Pay app, including the exchange of currency directly from the app to top up the card in euro.

Banca Transilvania now offers three types of animated virtual cards: the lei card, the UNTOLD card and, from now on, the euro card. More than 150,000 digital cards in lei and UNTOLD cards have been issued so far.

With more than 6 million cards, Banca Transilvania is the market leader. 1 out of 4 cards in circulation in Romania is issued by BT. More than 3 million of the bank's customers use the BT Pay application.
