Banca Transilvania obtained a very good ESG Risk Rating (17) and is included in the Low Risk category following sustainalytics analysis in terms of ESG initiatives and performance. The result ranks BT 133rd out of 1,003 banks globally, placing it in the top 15% of all companies analyzed by Sustainalytics, respectively in the top 8% of regional banks. Sustainalytics is one of the leading global providers of ESG ratings.

This is the first ESG external independence assessment of Banca Transilvania and analyzed corporate governance, the integration of ESG factors in the business model, data confidentiality and security, the ethics principles pursued, the offer of products and services, respectively the development of human capital. The analysis criteria are based on 10 international standards and frameworks, such as the Global Reporting Initiative, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures or the World Economic Forum.

Sustainalytics noted the performance of Banca Transilvania in the following aspects:

  • governance of the offer of products and services;
  • the policy of excluding polluting sectors in terms of lending, such as the financing of fossil fuels;
  • responsible marketing policy;
  • initiatives implemented for human capital development.

Omer Tetik, General Manager, Banca Transilvania, declared: "The transparency of the objectives, impact and performance of our operations is essential to maintain the trust of our customers and investors, so we wanted an independent evaluation. Even though responsible funding, support for the local economy and community involvement have always been in the bank's DNA, we are very pleased with this external recognition of BT's environmental, social and governance commitments, that is, in terms of ESG components. We continue to strengthen the portfolio of impactful financing and to develop Romania through access to finance, banking products, education and through financial inclusion".
