The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Banca Transilvania are backing Profi, a leading Romanian player, to expand supply chain financing.
This is the EBRD's first supply chain financing transaction in Romania and is part of the EBRD's Country Strategy for Romania, which aims to contribute to the development of SMEs and the strengthening of local supply chains.
The EBRD's involvement will help to extend the existing €20 million Profi supply chain financing program managed by Banca Transilvania, which is assuming 50% of the risk.
The EBRD remains committed to promoting innovation and sustainability within the Romanian retail sector. By enhancing the Profi supply chain finance program, we aim to empower SMEs, promote sustainable practices and create significant economic impact, in line with our broader strategy for the region.
Victoria Zinchuk
EBRD Country Director for Romania
Supply chain finance in Romania has seen steady growth in recent years as more companies experience the flexibility and benefits of these instruments. We appreciate the EBRD for its commitment to develop these instruments locally. Together, we can continue to expand the accessibility of manufacturers to efficient cash flow management, while providing our clients with an additional tool to manage supply chain risks.
Cosmin Călin
Executive Director Large Corporate, Banca Transilvania
Fostering the relationship with our suppliers, especially local and SME producers, by offering them access to supply chain finance as a simple tool to further develop their business is one of Profi's commitments. We are in the middle of the financing ecosystem through this simple, easy to access and very convenient financial mechanism, creating the link between our suppliers on the one hand and our banking partners on the other hand, with the common goal of further developing the modern retail industry in Romania.
Andrei Bica
Chief Financial Officer, Profi
In addition, participating suppliers will benefit from the EBRD's Advice for Small Businesses (ASB) program and the expertise of external consultants, who will support them to develop effective green transition plans, adapt innovative solutions in their operations and publish Science Based Targets (SBTi) commitments. Suppliers that adopt and publish SBTi commitments will be eligible for financial incentives of up to €25,000 each from the European Union's research and innovation funding program Horizon Europe.
Profi has 1,750 stores in Romania under three brands: Super (medium and large stores), Go (convenience stores) and Loco (stores in rural areas).
