Banca Transilvania became a shareholder of Victoriabank. BT and EBRD, a strategic partnership to support entrepreneurs and the economy of the Republic of Moldova

Banca Transilvania became a shareholder of Victoriabank,the third largest bank in the Republic of Moldova, with a stake of over 66% together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. BT and EBRD are majority shareholders of Victoriabank and strategic partners to support entrepreneurs and the economy of the Republic of Moldova.

It is for the first time in the last 10 years that a bank outside the Republic of Moldova invests on this market, BT thus opening the way to investments in the neighboring country.

In November 2017, Banca Transilvania announced its plan to invest in the Republic of Moldova, and in the meantime it has received approval for the acquisition from the supervisory authorities of Romania and the Republic of Moldova - the National Bank of Romania, the National Bank of Moldova and the Competition Council of the Republic of Moldova.

The priorities of Banca Transilvania for Victoriabank, as a shareholder together with the EBRD, are the following:

• Supporting the private business environment in the Republic of Moldova, especially the SME and micro sector;
• Developing a wide range of products and services for individuals;
• Alignment of the organizational culture and corporate governance of Victoriabank with those of banca transilvania financial group;

• Involvement in the personal and professional development of entrepreneurial people from the Republic of Moldova through meetings and courses organized by BT Club,which offer opportunities and opportunities for learning and networking;

Victoriabank has almost 30 years of activity, 540,000 customers, 1,400 employees and almost 100 offices. It is the protagonist of some notable premieres on the local banking market, such as: the first card issued, the first ATM, the first POS and the first premium cards. Victoriabank is also distinguished by its card activity: with 285,000 cards, it has over 17% market share, and as card turnover at merchants, it has over 37% of the market. The bank enjoys a very high degree of trust from its clients: it has the highest level of deposits in relation to the total assets in the entire moldovan market, of 80%, and the loan-to-deposit ratio is the lowest on the market, of 39%.

Banca Transilvania, the second largest bank in Romania, has 2.2 million customers, over 7,000 people in the team and over 500 offices. BT is the Bank of Entrepreneurial People, with over 250 thousand corporate clients, and a third of the companies newly established in Romania in 2017 choosing to work with Banca Transilvania. BT is the leader of the card market, with 3 million cards issued, with which over 1 million transactions take place / day. In January – September 2017, Banca Transilvania granted almost 140,000 new loans to individuals, SMEs and those in the Corporate area, totaling over 9 billion lei. Its strategy is supported by strong international shareholders, such as the EBRD and ifc – the World Bank.

Banca Transilvania Financial Group is present in the Republic of Moldova 10 years ago, when it launched BT Leasing MD, the market leader in the area in terms of value of fixed assets financing granted in leasing.
