Banca Transilvania becomes the main partner of the Romanian Basketball Federation

Banca Transilvania becomes the main partner of the Romanian Basketball Federation and will support its activity and competitive plans. The partnership was made public today, in Bucharest, during a press conference, by Ömer Tetik – General Manager of Transilvania Bank and By Horia Paun – President of the Romanian Basketball Federation.

Through this partnership, BT will be a sponsor of EuroBasket 2017; main sponsor of the National Men's Basketball Team in the 2016-2017 competition season; will support the main tournaments and activities of the national men's and women's basketball teams U20, U18, U16, respectively will be the main sponsor of the National Senior Women's Basketball Team in the 2016-2017 competition season.

The Romanian Basketball Federation has 275 affiliated clubs and over 21,000 athletes legitimized in domestic competitions.

The bank is also the main financier of the U-BT Sports Club Cluj-Napoca, and since December 2015 it has become the official sponsor of the National Women's Basketball Team in the Eurobasket 2017 Qualification Campaign. Also, BT contributes to the growth of future generations of basketball players, so it is for several years the partner of the "Ghita Muresan Summer Camp" program, and this year it will support the National Championship of Baby and Mini Basketball, designed for children between 7 and 12 years old. Banca Transilvania and the Romanian Basketball Federation achieved together a European audience record in the Eurobasket Women preliminaries in 2017: almost 7,000 spectators at the Romania-Turkey game, which took place in Cluj-Napoca.

• Romania is among the 8 countries that in 1932 founded the International Amateur Basketball Federation (FIBA), along with Argentina, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Latvia and Portugal. Basically, even Romania laid the foundations of modern basketball;
• Ghita Muresan was the first Romanian to play in the NBA. He started his career as a basketball player in Cluj-Napoca, at CS Mobitelco University, the current U-Banca Transilvania team, sponsored by Banca Transilvania;
• The European Basketball Championship (Eurobasket 2017) will be hosted for the first time in Romania; our country has participated 17 times in this competition.
