Premiere: AliasPay, a new solution to send or receive money by phone
18 March 2021 Reading time 3:00 minutes

Banca Transilvania's clients have, from now on, an additional alternative to transfer money by phone, AliasPay, which can be accessed from the BT Pay application.
Money transfers between accounts opened at different banks can be made using the beneficiary's mobile number, instead of the IBAN. At this stage, the solution can be used by BT and CEC Bank customers, and the service will expand as more banks include AliasPay in their offer. The transfer is based on the definition of an Alias, i.e. the association IBAN bank account - mobile phone number. The Alias definition is done in BT Pay/Profile.
Banca Transilvania offers 3 money transfer solutions through BT Pay:
- Free instant transfer using the phone number in Contacts (to another BT Pay user)
- Transfer via IBAN (to another BT or other bank/FinTech customer), instant intrabank and to 4 banks or clearing to all banks
- Transfer using AliasPay, i.e. phone number instead of IBAN (for the time being, to CEC Bank customers)
The service, developed by Transfond, was launched today at the Digital Financial Services Forum and is a first on the Romanian market. Representatives of the Romanian Bank Association, the National Bank of Romania, Transfond, CEC Bank and Banca Transilvania spoke at the event. BT was represented by Leontin Toderici, Deputy General Manager Operations, and the messages conveyed were as follows :
- We are glad to be part of this first in the Romanian banking system, by launching the option of interbank money transfer using the mobile phone number. Starting from today, Banca Transilvania's clients have access to the AliasPay service through the BT Pay application, used by 1.2 million people.
- AliasPay brings simplicity, security and scalability. We hope that the solution will be adopted as soon as possible by as many banks as it is our market, the market of banks in Romania.
- The BT payments ecosystem includes Instant Payments (also launched with Transfond and CEC Bank, in 2019), NEO Open Banking - 15,000 accounts from other banks and FinTechs are testing integration with BT (2019) and BT Pay - the first bank wallet in Romania (2018).
- BT is the market leader in terms of interbank payments in lei, settled through Transfond: 17.2% of total interbank payments in 2020; 18.1% of the value of interbank payments in 2020, i.e. 19.86% of the share of the volume of instant payments in total lei payments.
- Almost 72 billion lei is the value of the interbank payments made in 2020 by BT through Transfond.
- More than 21 million interbank payment transactions were carried out by BT in 2020 through Transfond.
- We thank AliasPay's launch partners, Transfond and CEC Bank, and we are confident that more banks will soon be offering this solution to simplify everyday online banking.
