Tiberiu Moisă, BT: Banca Transilvania’s commitment to agriculture is a long-term one
Tiberiu Moisă, Deputy General Manager for Mid-Market and SMEs at Banca Transilvania, attended the conference “Agriculture in 2026: Challenges, Adaptation, Opportunities,” organized by Ziarul Financiar in Constanța, with the support of Banca Transilvania. During the event, attended by over 90 farmers, discussions focused on the outlook for the 2026 agricultural year and on solutions through which farmers can address economic and environmental challenges. On this occasion, Tiberiu Moisă made the following statements:
- When it comes to agriculture, Banca Transilvania’s commitment is long-term. We have a large portfolio of loans, and we recognize that there are challenges and people who need support.
- One of the fundamental strengths of the Romanian economy is its resilience, which means that our economy has a depth and a maturity that enable it to weather both short-term and more severe shocks.
- We see that, in general, well-prepared companies handle situations better; they have years of experience behind them during which they have made more mature and balanced decisions than others. That is what it means to be a well-prepared company: you pay close attention to how much debt you take on, and to when you make investments and when you don’t.
- This is an opportunity for those who are financially stable and have the potential to grow.
- A priority for all of us is to ensure that the level of trust between lenders and farmers remains very strong. Here, everyone must take action where financing is provided; this applies to both sides, and banks must understand as clearly as possible what is happening. We know from past experiences in other industries that dialogue, transparency, and solutions implemented at the right time matter most.
- The funding levels from 10 to 15 years ago were incomparably lower than they are today. Looking back at how Romanian agriculture has modernized over the past two decades, I am satisfied.
- In my view, financing has gone hand in hand with the development of agriculture. Financing is always a reliable pillar of support.
- From our perspective, in agricultural terms, we see 2026 as a good year. The balance between production and financial sustainability is very important, and I believe it is worth adjusting our behaviors and decisions on a year-by-year basis, especially since, more recently, the new rule in agriculture is that every year brings something different.
