Confirm online payments securely and quickly

Confirm online payments from BT Pay, quickly and securely.

Thus, every time you pay online with a BT card, you will be able to confirm the transaction directly from your phone using your fingerprint or method of unlocking the phone. This way you will know that any transaction you make online will be done safely and that no one will be able to make transactions using your card details.

How do you confirm an online payment?

1
Add the cards in 3D Secure in BT Pay.
2
You instantly receive a notification on your phone every time you pay online at a merchant enrolled in 3D Secure and you confirm or not that payment, using the fingerprint or the unlocking method of the phone.

If your card is added to 3D Secure from BT Pay, you will no longer receive an SMS with a confirmation code for online payments, so it's good to have internet access.

How do I add the card in 3D Secure to BT PAY?

  • If we have identified you in the bank's system based on the phone number and the data entered when BT Pay is activated, adding cards to BT Pay will automatically allow you to confirm online transactions in the application. If you are already a BT Pay user, this will happen automatically at the next update;
  • If the phone number on which your BT card is registered in BT Pay is not the same as the one you declared to the bank, or if you have an additional card or a business card, you will activate the option in the Card Settings and follow the steps. You can check the enrollment of the card in 3D Secure BT Pay in the card details.

Confirmation

You make online purchases at a merchant registered in 3D Secure, enter your card details in the payment section (you can also find them in BT Pay at card details) and confirm.

Immediately you will receive a notification on your phone, with the name of the merchant, the payment amount and the last 4 digits of your card and you will be able to confirm or cancel the payment. You will have 5 minutes to confirm or cancel the transaction using the phone unlocking method: fingerprint, FaceID, pattern, pin, etc.

You must know, however, that the bank does not actually know your biometric data (eg fingerprint, face ID, etc.), but only relies on this information that you have recorded in the device you are using.

Confirmation of the transaction does not mean its completion. To make sure the payment is completed, you will return to the merchant's page to see the status of the transaction.

Once the cards are enrolled in 3D Secure BT Pay, you will no longer receive an SMS with a confirmation code for online payments. Make sure you have internet access to allow transactions to be authenticated.

What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure is an international security standard for internet payments that aims to further protect the cardholder and reduce fraud in the e-commerce area.

How does 3D Secure work?

When you pay online, on the website of a 3D Secure merchant, after entering your card details, whether it is a Visa or Mastercard card, you will be redirected to another payment confirmation page through 3D Secure. We will automatically send you a notification in BT Pay, where the name of the merchant and the payment amount will be mentioned, so that you can confirm the payment. Thus, both you and we are sure that it is you who makes that transaction yourself, minimizing the potential for fraud. You will have 5 minutes to confirm or give up the online transaction.

Why is 3D Secure important?

3D Secure is a security measure used to avoid online fraud, imposed by the legislation for payment security. It brings new security elements in the confirmation of transactions – the phone and biometrics. When we introduced it in the BT card system, we wanted it to create a safe, fast and pleasant experience for our customers. Thus, if until now you use a code received on SMS to confirm online payments, from now on we make this authentication to be faster and easier, in BT Pay, just by using the fingerprint or the method of unlocking the phone.
